Romance Writers of Australia, Annual Conference 2015

August would have to be one of my favourite times of the year. Not only, for us in Australia, is spring letting us know it’s not far away, but the annual RWA conference is held. This year it was in Melbourne at the Park Hyatt and the weather and venue were perfect. Luxurious 5 star accommodation with scrumptious food and the company of 400 plus fellow writers, a cocktail party and a gala awards dinner to keep us entertained, plus there were workshops that enthralled us for the complete weekend. A deep bow of appreciation to the organisers.

What makes it even better is the new friends you meet and the old friends you travel and catch up with. It was my first trip to Melbourne and took great delight in being shown the sights by my travelling companion, children’s author and award winning artist Jacque Duffy and new friend Monique McDonell chit lit author extraordinar. What fun we had.

Sydney last year was my first conference and it was great to do it all again. With so many workshops to choose from there was something to suit everyone and I came away with new found ideas and information on how to improve my craft.

Pitching session to editors, publishers and agents is another generous venture on the offering. I am happy to say I successfully pitched, not just my first novel, but the six book series, “All Roads Lead to Love,” as a whole. Exciting times, now the hard work begins.

FG-walk The icing on the cake was taking walks around the city and park lands, catching up with friends old and new. Sharing stories and happenings from over the last year and making plans to get together for the next conference 2016.

There is nothing nicer than staying the extra day and sharing a walk with a friend or two.

The RWA 25th anniversary annual conference next year is in Adelaide, on the 19th to the 21st of August, at the Stamford Grand Hotel at Glenelg. Looking forward to it.
